A Letter to Darwin Scofield

Darwin Scofield was the pastor of the Libby Baptist Church for decades here in my home town.

Dear Darwin,

I wanted to send you word on how Amber, the girls, Luke and I are doing. The years are flying by with ups and downs, trials and tribulations. But we stand firm in the Lord. I feel compelled to share with you the impact you have had on our lives by allowing God to use you.

“Nevertheless, the one who receives instruction in the word must share in all good things with his instructor.” Galatians 6:6

When I first met you, I claimed to be a Christian on Sundays, but went back to the ways of the world come Monday morning. I was living with my girlfriend at the time (now my wife of six years). When you found out we wanted to get married, you stepped in and put your foot down. I found myself in Richard Minor’s basement trying to get right with God until my wedding day. I thank God he put you in my life to set a good example on how to be a proper man and fear the Lord. It hasn’t been easy, but I have seen much fruit come from the path I am now on.

“Remember your leaders who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” Hebrews 13:7-8

“But as for you, continue in the things you have learned and firmly believed, since you know from whom you have learned them. From infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.” 2 Timothy 3:14-15

My family and I love you very much… thank you.

God bless and keep you my friend.

John Bursell
