Focused in 2020
I am focused on one thing. It took me 49 years to get to
this point, but I am now dedicated to “My Walk”, a Christian comic book. I have
felt guilt for being scattered for so long. But now I see how it is all coming
together for this project. The graphic design work, the photography, bad
poetry, painting, drawing, bad relationships and poor chooses, falling away from
Christ and rebelling, story telling and day dreaming, all building up to this
book. And God is tugging on me to do it.
Once again, I have been writing a story that has gotten out
of control. When this has happened before, I had been overwhelmed and gave up.
I have discovered a few techniques to avoid this disaster on “My Walk”. I am
including some links and descriptions below.
Art Parents:
This is a way to polish your art and look more professional. The idea in brief
is to adopt your art parents, choosing three artists of different styles,
studying them then merging them all into your art. I picked Charles Schulz
(Peanuts) for the shapes he uses in his comics, Bill Watterson (Calvin and
Hobbes) for his line work and Mike Mignola (Hell Boy) for the color used in his
books.
Finished,
Not Perfect: Complete your work!
You Need A
Product, Not a Project
The 4 Lines:
Draw a line. Write a line. Read a line. Pray a line. This is something I
developed myself to keep me motivated. The idea is even when I don’t feel like
drawing, if I get my pencil, eraser and sketch book out and draw a line, the
momentum pushes me forward. I guess what? I’m drawing! Then I write a line, and
bam! I just wrote for an hour. Then I crack my Bible open to read and pray.
